Overview

About This Service

React Native lets us build real native mobile apps with TypeScript and React — the same technology behind most modern web apps. Your iOS and Android apps share most of their code, and often business logic with your React or Next.js website, so features ship faster and stay consistent everywhere.

We build React Native apps on the New Architecture with Expo, TypeScript and well-tested native modules, and we know when to drop into Swift or Kotlin for performance-critical features. Whether you are starting fresh, rescuing a slow app or upgrading an outdated React Native version, our team delivers clean, maintainable code.

How We Work

Our Process

A clear, step-by-step delivery process with working software at every stage.

  1. Step 1: Discovery & Architecture

We review your goals, existing web stack and APIs, then plan which code can be shared and which features need native modules.

  2. Step 2: UI/UX Design

Platform-aware designs and an interactive prototype that respect iOS and Android conventions.

  3. Step 3: React Native Development

TypeScript-first development in two-week sprints with Expo development builds you can install on your phone.

  4. Step 4: Testing & QA

Unit tests with Jest, end-to-end tests with Detox or Maestro, and manual testing on real devices.

  5. Step 5: Store Release & OTA Setup

App Store and Google Play submission plus an over-the-air update pipeline for fast, safe fixes.

  6. Step 6: Maintenance & Upgrades

React Native and library upgrades, performance monitoring and new features after launch.

React Native App Development Company

AI Nova Apps is a React Native app development company that helps startups and established businesses launch iOS and Android apps from one TypeScript codebase. React Native renders real native components, so your app looks and behaves like a native app while your team works with React — the technology behind most modern web products. It is one of the core frameworks used by our mobile app development team.

The New Architecture, in Plain Terms

React Native has been substantially rebuilt in recent years, and the New Architecture is now the default for new apps. Three parts matter to you as a product owner:

  • JSI lets JavaScript call native code directly instead of passing messages over the old asynchronous bridge, removing a major source of lag.
  • Fabric, the new renderer, supports modern React features such as concurrent rendering, so complex screens and gestures feel smoother.
  • Turbo Modules load native modules only when they are needed, which helps startup time.

Together with the Hermes JavaScript engine, which precompiles code to bytecode, this closes much of the performance gap behind early React Native's mixed reputation. It also means older apps still on the legacy architecture need a planned migration, because new library versions increasingly support only the new one.

Expo or Bare React Native?

The official React Native documentation now recommends starting new apps with a framework such as Expo, and for most projects we do: Expo Router for file-based navigation and deep links, EAS Build and Submit for repeatable cloud builds and store uploads, and EAS Update for over-the-air fixes. Expo no longer limits native access — with development builds, config plugins and the Expo Modules API we can add any native SDK. We choose a bare setup mainly when React Native is being embedded into an existing native app or a client's build pipeline requires it.

Native Modules When JavaScript Isn't Enough

Some features need platform code: Bluetooth Low Energy devices, background location, a bank or KYC SDK that only ships for iOS and Android, on-device machine learning or heavy media processing. Our engineers write these modules in Swift and Kotlin with the Expo Modules API or Turbo Native Modules, expose a typed TypeScript interface to the rest of the app, and test them like any other code. iOS widgets, Live Activities and watch apps are built natively alongside the React Native app.

Sharing Code With Your Web App

For many companies, the biggest advantage of React Native is reuse. In a monorepo, your React or Next.js website and your mobile app can share TypeScript types, API clients, data-fetching hooks, validation rules and design tokens, so a pricing rule or form check is written once and behaves the same everywhere. Some screens can be shared through React Native for Web, though we keep SEO-critical pages in Next.js, where they rank best. Our web development team works in the same stack, which makes this practical rather than theoretical.

Over-the-Air Updates, Used Responsibly

EAS Update lets us ship JavaScript fixes to users within minutes instead of waiting for a store release, with separate channels for staging and production and quick rollback. Apple and Google permit this for bug fixes and small improvements as long as the update doesn't change the app's core purpose, so new native code and significant features still go through normal store review.

Rescue and Upgrade Existing React Native Apps

Many teams come to us with an app that has fallen behind: an old React Native version, slow lists, crashes or libraries that no longer build. We audit the codebase, upgrade step by step to the New Architecture, replace abandoned packages, fix performance bottlenecks with tools such as FlashList and Reanimated, and set up CI/CD and monitoring, so the app is stable and ready for new features again.

React Native vs Flutter vs Native

React Native is usually the best choice when you already have a React product or JavaScript team, or need to share logic between web and mobile. Flutter shines for highly custom, animation-heavy interfaces, while native iOS and Android development suits apps that push device hardware to the limit. Read our Flutter vs React Native comparison and our guide to native vs cross-platform app development for more detail.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does React Native app development cost?

As a rough guide, a React Native MVP usually starts around US$5,000–$15,000, and full-featured apps with custom backends, payments and real-time features typically range from $15,000 to $35,000 or more. Sharing code with an existing React web app can reduce the cost further. We provide a fixed quote after a free consultation.

How long does it take to build a React Native app?

Most React Native MVPs take 8–10 weeks from design to launch on both app stores. Larger apps are delivered in phases over 3–5 months.

Is React Native performance good enough for my app?

For the vast majority of business, e-commerce, social and SaaS apps, yes. The New Architecture and the Hermes engine give React Native direct, fast communication with native code and smoother rendering. For performance-critical features we write native modules in Swift or Kotlin.

Should we use Expo for our React Native app?

In most cases, yes. Expo is the framework the React Native documentation recommends for new apps, and with development builds and config plugins it no longer restricts native code. It gives you reliable cloud builds, simpler upgrades and over-the-air updates. We use a bare setup mainly when React Native is embedded in an existing native app.

Are over-the-air updates allowed by Apple and Google?

Yes, within limits. Both stores allow apps to download updated JavaScript for bug fixes and small improvements, provided the update doesn't change the app's core purpose or add features that should have gone through review. Changes to native code always require a normal store release, and we plan your release process around those rules.

Should I choose React Native or Flutter?

Choose React Native if you have a React web app or JavaScript team and want to share code and skills. Choose Flutter for highly custom, animation-heavy interfaces. Both produce high-quality apps, and we help you decide based on your product and team.

Can you upgrade or fix our existing React Native app?

Yes. We regularly take over existing React Native codebases — upgrading versions, migrating to the New Architecture, replacing outdated libraries, fixing crashes and improving performance.

Can you share code between our website and mobile app?

Yes. With a monorepo we can share TypeScript types, API clients, validation and business logic between your React or Next.js website and your React Native app, which speeds up development and keeps behaviour consistent.
